Small summary:
Working with Linux:
LAN, Bluetooth, Modem, WLAN, USB, accelerated XServer, Webcam, CPUFreq, Firewire, IRDA, Cardreader
Not yet:
Not yet tested:
TVout, PCMCIA/Express
Output of lspci -v und lsusb -v.
Installation:
No problems so far.
top
XServer:
No problems, recognized, configured by Yast. For 3D you must
install the Nvidiadriver.
top
TVout:
Not yet tested.
top
Webcam:
Working, kernelmodule not delivered,
sourcecode is available here.
Module for openSUSE 10.2 i386,
extract, copy to /lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/updates, run depmod.
top
Sound:
No problems, Intel HD-Audio, recognized and configured by Yast.
top
Touchpad/Mouse:
Recognized, configured by SAX2. For horizontal scrolling comment out HorizEdgeScroll in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
top
Keyboard:
Normal keys without problems. Hotkeys do work, needs acerhk, module options force_series=6000 poll=0.
Maybe you have to set some keycodes in /$HOME/.Xmodmap,
then tune your shortcuts in KDE or GNOME.
10.2: kernel module for 2.6.18.2-34-default.
10.3: acerhk already included.
top
WLAN:
Installation without problems, Intel 3945a/b/g, recognized, configured by Yast.
10.2: Kernelmodule with monitormode enabled (for Kismet).
top
Ethernet:
No problems.
top
Bluetooth:
Connection to my mobile phone works.
top
Modem:
Works, but not opensource - http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf,
the free version has limited function. There are packages for many distributions. Full version for 20$.
top
IRDA:
Difficult, but works. A kernelpatch is needed
(patched module for 2.6.18.8-0.1-default).
Prior loading the module the serial port has to be freed, setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none. Then modprobe smsc-ircc2.
For a networkinterface e.g. load ircomm-tty and irattach irda0 -s, with irdadump it is possible to test if it works.
At least I can see my desktop with irdadump, if obex or synchronization works I cannot test due to missing devices,
every positive report is welcome.
New: In 2.6.22-rc1 is a similar patch, haven't tried that yet.
Was removed again due to problems with some laptops.
top
Firewire:
Works without problems with my videocamera.
top
Power/ACPI:
Not tested yet. CPU-Frequencyscaling works.
top
DVD:
Not tested yet, no problems expected.
top
PCMCIA/Express:
Not tested yet, no problems expected.
top
Cardreader:
Works with an adapted version of this patch
on openSUSE Factory with 2.6.22-rc3 for me, tested with a SD-card.
New: Looks like this will be in 2.6.23.
